SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS EVENTS
Council & PAUSD have declared September as Emergency Preparedness month
  • SEPTEMBER 6: Greenmeadow “Emergency Preparedness Show and Tell” with PANDA trailer at
    their Labor Day picnic from 5:30-7:30 in the park.
  • SEPTEMBER 11: Quakeville -- A City Sponsored pilot program for neighbors to experience what
    life would be like in a major disaster. The event will be based on an earthquake scenario and will feature
    an overnight camp out with centralized information on status and relief efforts. There will be PAN
    Neighborhood and Block Preparedness Coordinators, PANDAs and HAMs (ARES/RACES). There will
    be a first aid tent with demos conducted by the Red Cross and the Boy Scouts. Also there will be
    an emergency preparedness show-and tell. Location Juana Briones Park starting at 3:30PM.

  • SEPTEMBER 11: Open House for the Mobile Emergency Operations Center (MEOC) at 4pm
    at Juana Briones Park. PANDA trailers will also be on-site.
  • SEPTEMBER 11: Airport Day from 10 Am to 4 PM. See http://www.paloaltoairport.aero/. The event
    showcases the Palo Alto Airport, showing the many useful functions that the airport supports. There
    will be displays of all kinds of airplanes from vintage aircraft dating from prior to WWII to modern
    aircraft withthe latest Electronic Navigation Equipment.
  • SEPTEMBER 13: Council Study Session on Emergency Preparedness (Citizen Corps Council)
    at 6PM at City Hall - Council Conference Room.
  • SEPTEMBER 18: Safety Faire at USGS, 345 Middlefield in Menlo Park from 10AM until 2:00 PM.
    Stop by the Palo Alto/Stanford Citizen Corps Council tables. This FREE faire features family
    preparedness. Participants will have an opportunity to meet with the many preparedness stakeholders.
    There will be give-aways, demos and lectures by USGS.
    Please note: The CCC plans a safety faire on May 1, 2011 at the Stanford Shopping Center.
  • SEPTEMBER 21: New 2 hour class - Personal Preparedness, a Palo Alto adaption of the national
    “Get Ready” curriculum. View flyer.

  • SEPTEMBER 22: California Hospital Association meeting in Sacramento -
    presentation by Officer Ken Dueker on "active shooter"
  • SEPTEMBER 23: California Hospital Association meeting in Sacramento -
    presentation by Bernadette Burnes-Line of Stanford on "drive through triage"

  • SEPTEMBER 25: PANDA Triage & treatment class from 9 AM to 4 PM at Cubberely H6.
  • SEPTEMBER 26: Annual Midtown Ice Cream Social, featuring community building PLUS ice cream,
    chili, popcorn and more. Community information tables will include emergency preparedness
    information and how to get families supplied.
    Location: Hoover Park -- Cowper near Colorado
  • OCTOBER 3: Gamble Garden Community Day includes a neighborhood and preparedness focus
    with tables for both PAN (Palo Alto Neighborhoods) and Emergency Preparedness.
    Location: 1431 Waverley.
  • OCTOBER 7: Stanford Campus wide evacuation. Time - unannounced, start with campus sirens.
  • OCTOBER 9: NPC/BPC Training -- 10AM Foothill Auditorium at Cubberley Campus.

  • OCTOBER 21: Awards Ceremony and Keynote in City Council Chambers with a kick off by
    City Manager Jim Keene, 7 PM.
  • OCTOBER 21: The Great California Great Shake Out - www.shakeout.org. Various organizations
    (City Hall, Red Cross, etc.) will Duck, Cover and Hold at 10:21 AM.
  • OCTOBER 21: Open House for the Mobile Emergency Operations Center (MEOC), at 5pm before
    the awards ceremony -- outside city hall.
