Order your tickets in advance, as last year several shows were sell-outs with standing room only! Shows are approximately 75 minutes long. Adult tickets $8, Youth (under 18) tickets $4.
Order forms will be available in the El Carmelo office or online at http://www.elcarmelo.paloaltopta.org beginning Mon., Nov. 3.

TIPS
Trees: Ellie recommends the care of trees.com for the tree cutting and ask them to leave you the chips as pine tree chips and needles make very good mulch. Do not dig it in but leave it on the surface to decompose slowly and improve the soil. They help to make our alkaline soil more acid which is good for most desirable garden plants; esp azalea and Rhododendrons, and also many others.

Tips for Creating & Sustaining a new habit! (and more to come)
* Place your reusable bags on the front seat of the car so they are prominent.
* If you are carrying a purse, place it on top of the bags. When you grab your purse for shopping, you will see the bags and remember to take them into the store.
STAY SAFE FOR HALLOWEEN: This note just in. I couldn't find anything on the urban legend site. So use cautiously. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning consumers not to consume White Rabbit Creamy Candy or Koala's March Crème filled Cookies because they may contain melamine. And, the Canadian government is warning the public not to consume Sherwood Brands Pirate's Gold Milk Chocolate Coins, which may also have reached the U.S.) What's wrong with these candies? You've likely heard about the dangerous chemical, melamine, which was recently found in the Chinese milk supply and sickened thousands of children in China. We've now seen reports that melamine tainted milk has been used in some Chinese candy products that have been shipped to the United States. The good news is that Chinese candy makes up only 0.7% of the candy sold in the U.S. and the risk of serious harm from minor exposure to melamine is considered low by the World Health Organization.

NOVEMBER 5: "The Mayfield Brewing Company and the History of Palo Alto" from 5 - 6:30 PM at Oak West Lounge, Tresidder Union. Alsace native Michel Klineclaus founded the original Mayfield Brewing Company in 1868. First located at the corner of College and Yale streets in the College Terrace area, then part of the unincorporated town of Mayfield, it later moved to the corner of modern-day California and Birch Streets. Over the years, the brewing company changed ownership a few times. Although the Stanfords were unhappy about having a brewery located so near their new university, it nevertheless lasted until 1920 when Prohibition closed it down. At its peak, the brewery produced 1000 barrels of beer a month and supplied a steam beer to the communities of Woodside, Portola, Redwood City, San Mateo and South San Francisco. Eighty-seven years after the original Mayfield Brewing Company closed its doors, it has emerged once again to serve Palo Alto and its surrounding communities.

NANCY sends this advice: If you are confused by the numerous issues, etc. on the ballet; let me give you a tip given to me by a member of the League of Women Voters. Go to their website http://www.smartvoter.org/ca/. It will ask you for your voting address and then bring up the ballot and issues that you can expect for your location. It has info and bios on all of the candidates running, which is particularly helpful for some of the judicial, and less well-known county offices. I found them to be concise and informative. Then we get into the various initiatives, etc. In each case by clicking on the various options you can get a concise statement for what it is about and then you can bring up both of the pro and cons for initiatives. These are informative, cut-to-the-chase, and boiled down to a few paragraphs instead of pages! Kudos to the members of this dedicated organization whose purpose is to inform and clarify--but you still have to decide for yourself!
