More on the lost parakeet: Folks – A net is great if you have one. Some folks will just throw a towel or light blanket over the parakeet, and then scoop it up.
But sometimes it’s much easier than that. After a few days in the wild, parakeets are typically tired and very hungry – and they realize that humans are their meal ticket. So often the bird will come to you. Then the key is to get it indoors, somewhere safe from other pets. You can use a cardboard box (turned upside down) as a temporary cage. If you don't have any bird food (seed), they will happily munch on walnuts or the like.

Mr. Weden, a retired Santa Clara County Principal Planner, will discuss how Santa Clara County is about to be hit by a “senior tsunami.” In less than 20 years, one quarter of our county’s adult population will be over 65, as the Baby Boom generation ages. Many will be non-drivers – living in cities that were mostly designed around the automobile. What can we do to adapt our cities to assure that our growing senior population – and others in our community – can live active, interesting, and productive lives, without having to drive or own a car? Learn more about this rapidly approaching “senior tsunami” and what our cities can do to prepare for it. TIPS
George writes on new CPR technique taught by PA Fire: The major benefit for the lay person is its simplicity. No counting of breaths or pumps. The emphasis is on maintaining blood supply to the brain. A secondary benefit may be keeping the lungs pumping – although the lungs don't perform with the same rhythm as the approximately 100 pumps per minute of the new method.
